I'd suggest soothing current as it is a staple of most sets. 8% constant heal, only a few AP. Very useful in almost every battle.

It really depends. Are you going to be pretty dedicated in battling? or at least have a decently powerful pet?

If so, i would probably invest in getting what manhunter11 said, the soothing current scroll. Or if you have the money, terra focujin scroll.

For attacking, i use diamond edge scroll, but thats not the cheap.

You could look at the second page of the recommended weapons guide. Their a spell section that's smaller so it might be easier to wade through. For cheap attacking I would go with Corroding Dew spell.

Yep, you can still unequip a spell from your pet and do whatever you want with it.
